haircut time...because my hair fell out

here's a true story -

i have suuuuuper thin//fine hair. super super. sometimes i wear something i like to call fancy hair...also known as clip-ins. i love them. they make me feel...fancy. and like i have thickish hair for the first time in my life.

i originally picked up my fancy hair because when i was pregnant with kaye and shortly after she was born my hair broke off in a big way...in chunks.

it was all i could do to not have a panic attack.

i mean, wouldn't you have a panic attack if your hair broke like this? just look at the front of my hair? i certainly didn't cut it that way. (this was between pregnancies with kaye and sawyer.)

...and with the fancy hair. the fancy hair really allowed me to not lock myself inside.

i know it seems silly, but the hair breakage really killed my confidence.

fast forward a few years and the hair had grown back and was back to it's normal thinnish self. then i got pregnant with sawyer and the breaking of the hair began.

here's a view of the fancy hair while i was pregnant with sawyer during round two of hair breakage. here i had had the fancy hair shortened by at least five inches. i think it looked more natural.

then sawyer was born and the falling out of the hair began.

i felt like i and two hairs left. like...not even enough hair for my fancy hair to clip into.

i warded off any panic attacks, again, and waited for the regrowth process to begin...and so it has...with a vengeance. i have short spikes of hair popping up all over my head...in a dark brown color, no less.

all this to say, i need a haircut, like, two months ago. yesterday. right now.

i'm headed to the salon today to get my business together, and hopefully reappear with a style that will help my transitional hair. and with as much as i prefer long-ish hair (as does my farmer), i think we're all going to have to adjust to a sensible bob for the time being.

here's what i'm looking at...

i'm under no illusion that my hair will look as good as the gals pictured here. they have thick, glorious hair with body for days. what i am hoping for is a style that doesn't look like i just lost all my hair.

too much to ask? wish me luck.

  1. If it makes you feel any better, I never knew the fancy hair wasn't your real hair - it was a perfect match! And girl, you can totes pull off a cute bob. Love it. I might be right there with ya soon. I have fine hair too, and am currently waiting for my hair to start falling out like it did with Caleb. Sigh. The things we mamas go through.

  2. haha, OH gosh the hair loss after kids, ridiculous! My daughter is almost 2 and I'm still dealing with the stupid hair growth...although I guess I'm happy that it grew back. My hair was so thin in the front I couldn't wear my hair in a ponytail. But now...guess what color mine is growing back? Yep that's right they're all coming in grey! Arg...

  4. I just scheduled a hair cut too for my post baby hair fix. Only 2.5 years later. I'm thinking long bob myself and I love that first one with the plaid top. It's a gorgeous cut!

  5. So your hair broke off WHILE you were pregnant? Yikes girlfriend! Mine fell out in clumps after H was born, and I never noticed any increased thickness so I just thinned out a lot. With this baby, I have wispy regrowth from H but again - no increased thickness! Not looking forward to the falling out phase. I mean, as if pregnancy wasn't bad enough, right?! The bobs look adorable and I'm sure you'll rock any of them!

  6. I love the first hair option! I bet that once they cut it to be styled that way it will probably look thicker for you. I have a lot of hair but it's very fine so I use a root lifting volumizer that helps and makes it look fuller & like it has more body on top!

  7. Those cuts are so cute and would look great on you! I totally understand the panicked feeling, my hair has gotten really thin due to thyroid issues, hate it!

  13. I used to have baby fine hair... then I cut it all off and it grew back thicker... so maybe this will help you too! That being said, have you had your hormone levels checked? Sometimes a vitamin deficiency will cause hair issues... but I don't know more than that... so take me with a grain of salt!

  15. I feel your pain! I have very fine hair, and I wear "fancy hair" when I want to look my best as well. Lol I hope your hair cut was everything you wanted it to be, you'll look great no matter what!

  16. Oh, the things we go through for those babes of ours. ;-) Lucky they're cute. My hair fell out a lot after both pregnancies, but never during and I don't think it broke off. Clip-ins are a godsend! You'll look cute with those shorter styles!

  17. I lost about a third (maybe more) of my hair within 3 days shortly after I was very sick and in the hospital... I had a HUGE panic attack! It took a long time for me to get over it, because it wasn't cute even after it started to grow back. But chopping it helps so much, and it WILL grow back! I think you'll look great with any of those styles!

  18. I have super fine thin hair and due to health problems have had some issue with it. Last summer I chopped it off into a lob (like 16+ inches) and I have never been happier. It seems much more voluminous and full of life. Plus it seems to be growing back healthier. I think you'll feel the same - plus all those hairstyles are so low maintenance it's wonderful in the summer or on busy mornings!

  20. Postpartum hairloss is no joke, mama! I feel your pain on this one. I cut my hair short and sassy after it starting breaking and I loved the short mom bob! Here's hoping your hair problems disappear for you soon!
