5 | must-haves to get ready for summah summah tiiime

well kids. it's darn near may which then brings us to june…and if you live near the surface of the sun like we do it'll reach the 100's this summer.

one must be prepared.

there are the essentials | deodorant, a semi-regular wax job, sunscreen, and air conditioning. it's a dry heat here. feels like you're baking right in an oven. AC is where it's at.

then there are the wants…and i have compiled a list.

1 | a solid pair of cut-offs. i bought a pair of white cut-offs a few summers ago and i can't get enough of them. it's no secret that i'm 30 and i love me a pair of short shorts. throw in a pair of cowboy boots and you're in bizz. i even rocked that look for my maternity pictures with kaye.
no, they aren't maternity. i had no business being in these shorts at 34 weeks pregnant.
but i have yet to find a pair of cut-offs in just a simple blue wash that don't look like mom-shorts. i don't have time for mom-shorts. i'm walking a fine line of feeling old and hanging onto my youth.

recommendations welcome.

2 | sunglasses. i need a new pair of sunglasses, like, yesterday. i love the way ray ban shades look on other people so i ordered myself a pair last week. sh*t-tastic is a great way to describe what i saw in the mirror.
source
i have a small face (the only small thing on my body) so finding a pair the doesn't drown me is going to be key.

i'm going to give ray ban one more go. they have some shades out that are supposedly smaller than the originals. we shall see.

3 | sunless tanner. let's rewind about five years when i spent 30% of my life in a tanning bed. i cry at the thought of what my skin could look like had i NOT been obsessed with that perfect glow.
source
i picked up some l'oreal sublime bronze self-tanning towelettes yesterday and i'm excited to try them out. they received good reviews and will hopefully keep me from blinding the public when i'm in my super short shorts.

4 | garden-fresh tomatoes + herbs. i know. i'm dreaming. i'm 95% positive i won't have a garden again this year. mostly because…i'm married to a farmer and while he can grow corn like it's his job…literally, it's his job…i lack motivation. if i did have a garden…i would do raised beds in troughs…something like the below. but luckily i have a gal-pal who's planting a garden bigger than most people's lawns. i'll just sneak over there when they're at church.

5 | bikini. there…i said it. i need a new bikini top asap. well…i actually need new boobs, but until that happens, i'll settle for a new top.

  1. I also need some fake skin color, I used those wipes and I liked them, but I have a friend who owns a spa (in Colombia, not here, I'm not that lucky) and she loves quick tan. I'm going to get some and let you know how it works :)

  2. I struggle with the shorts issue. Actually, just this past weekend I put a pair on and kept asking my husband if they were too short. I feel like at 26, maybe I shouldn't be wearing such short shorts anymore. I used those towels last year and had good results with them!

  4. If you can rock those shorts at 34 weeks pregnant (which duh, you did) then you should be rocking those shorts. No excuses.

  5. I agree, wear the short shorts as long as humanly possible. But if you are looking for more - I like JCrew, they have a great variety. I have the opposite problem with shades, with my big melon head the employee at my eye doctor gently suggested that I wear men's glasses. Doh! Happy Weekend!

  6. Whoa! You look A-MAZing in those short shorts. And the fact that you're 34 weeks prego in that pic kinda makes me hate you! Just Kidding! LOVE the look...and you're definitely rockin' it! I'm anxious to know what you think of the tan towels you bought. I use the Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Glow Pads from Sephora and love the results!

  7. Yowzaa! I love those shorts on you! Keep rocking them for as long as you like :) I'm having a hard time finding some good shorts right now. Short shorts just seem to accent my obnoxiously large thighs, but anything medium length doesn't seem to be in style right now. Lame. I'm also loving your old maternity pictures. Not only were you a fantastic looking pregnant lady, it makes me want to fly out to Idaho and never leave.

  11. You're crazy, you look fricken amazing in your shorts.

I need boobs too. Maybe we should start a kickstarter together.

  12. I do love garden fresh veggies but I'm not going to have a garden this year, either. We have perennial herbs so I will at least get the benefit of those!
I've never gone tanning and have never mastered a fake tan...I think I'm just going to accept my pale girl status.

  17. YES to the perfect pair of short shorts and cowboy boots. Those are my staples in the summer! Except I won't ride in short shorts because can you say "hello chapped thighs"! Also, YES to the sunglasses! My son has successfully busted all of my sunglasses so I am in the market for a new pair that don't dwarf my face or make me look ridiculous. I hate shopping for sunglasses. I almost feel like I wrote this list with they way I am yes, yes, yessing ha ha :D I love the idea of planting a garden in troughs! We don't have any cute metal ones, just black plastic which aren't near as cute. If you find a way to get new boobs can you let me in on the secret?

  18. Those shorts look great on you and I hope your sunglasses work out, it's hard to find the perfect pair! And I literally laughed out loud after I read your new boob comment, you are too funny.
