spring cleaning | our refrigerator was disgusting

you guys. my little blog here reached 600 readers this weekend on bloglovin!

that's a big, damn deal to me.

granted…there are blogs out there that have 1000, 4000, 20k and more…but a humble 600? i'll take it.

but enough about that…i cleaned out my fridge this weekend for the first time since we moved in.

now, before you think i'm absolutely disgusting. let me tell you…i'm absolutely disgusting.

we moved in two years ago.

i've always considered myself a clean person. like…clean clean. not OCD clean, but clean.

as in, i own a pair of yellow, rubber gloves and have pumased the toilet ring.

so last week when i asked farmer if we could get a new fridge, instead of impulsively buying one, we made a list of our priority wants:

+ king bed
+ dining table and chairs
+ filtration system to put on our well which could cost more than…a lot. it could cost a lot.
+ backsplash our kitchen and bathrooms

basically, i want each of those things way more than i want a new fridge.

it was a very responsible moment.

i was left to clean it out and scrub it down.

i was shocked at how absolutely disgusting it was. it took the better part of an hour.

if you were to look at it, you never would have thought it was dirty.

take all the food out? gag-worthy. i can't believe we ate food out of there.

but now it's sparkling, organized, and i'll be able to live with it for at least three more weeks.

  1. Ha, this post had me laughing out loud! I love that you wanted a new fridge instead of cleaning yours. I'm sure it feels good to have it sparkling now!

  3. Oh we are the WORST about cleaning out our fridge!! If I realize something is gross, I'll decide to just wait to clean it out...which only makes it more disgusting. This is one of those grownup things that just kind of sucks.

  5. Congrats on the followers, that is definitely something to be proud of! I am a bit ocd about cleaning my fridge and like it to be organized a certain way, the man of the house has yet to get this skill down and it drives me nuts!

  7. How adult of you! I must say I don't think I would be able to do so myself (making a list of what we really need when I want something different) your fridge looks great though. Ours needs cleaned out sometime soon.

  8. Ha! I love this! I am so OCD about having a picked-up, non-cluttered house...but our fridge is so gross! I definitely need to clean it more often!

  9. Not gonna lie... I found a fly... a dead one in my fridge after removing one of the drawers. GAG. Then I realized it had been a year+ since I cleaned it. Funny how I always imagined being a SAHM (didn't happen) who cooks wonderful meals (try mac n cheese and hot dogs) and cleans every weekend (I'm lucky if I do it once a month). I love the color of your pantry door BTW. :)

  12. I clean my fridge once a year and every year I tell myself I should clean it more. It's just crazy how dirty it gets. Congrats on the 600!

  13. Yay on 600, I think 600 is rockin!

This reminds me that I should clean out my fridge. One of my least favourite chores. But, I just moved all the furniture and cleaned behind everything in the living room so that should buy me the rest of the day to be lazy, right?... =)

  16. Cleaning the fridge is among my top 5 most hated household chores. The first time I cleaned out ours I yelled at my husband for being so gross. HAHA.

  17. My worst chore is moping the floor but cleaning the fridge is a close second. Just moving everything around to clean it is just so much work. Ugh! Always nice when it is sparking clean though.

  18. I go on cleaning fits every once in a whole and I am always the most disgusted with our frige/freezer, bathroom (aka shower) and the laundry room. Glad to know I'm not alone!!

  19. Congratulations on reaching 600 followers! I would totally opt for a whole new fridge rather than tackling the job too haha.

  20. Damn girl...way to go on 600! That's bad ass! And loving the door to your pantry - sorry I actually looked beyond the food (a first for me) and saw your kitchen set-up. Love!

  21. I cleaned out our fridge a couple of weeks ago and wanted to vomit. I can't believe how dirty it was considering we're fairly clean people. I mean, I was embarrassed! Next task is the shower....

  22. I LOATHEEE cleaning out the fridge. I've done it a handful of times in the past few years, but does it REALLY need to happen that often? Probably, but oh well. :)

  23. I'm really not much better about it. I hate going through and tossing leftovers and expired stuff, so I will literally wait until I am totally out of tupperware to do it. Forced cleaning by necessity. Hey, at least it works.

Congrats on the 600 followers, frankly I think that's doing damn well!

  24. That's a relief! After all, making sure all those foodstuffs will last is not only the top priority; it is a prerequisite. Think of all the things that will be wasted! More than that though, is the quality of refrigeration and storage. At least you got them in shape enough to last the move into a new and more recommendable refrigerator.

  25. Pour some water over the patio and wait about five minutes and this will make the washing operation a little easier.
